Kibale National Park is an attractive park in Uganda with varied tracts of tropical rain forest and a multiplicity of animals located in western Uganda slightly off the Equator. The annual temperature ranges between 14° - 27°C and is generally cool. It is the ultimate place for chimpanzee trekking in Uganda.
It is known as the “primate capital of East Africa” with 13 different primate species. Kibale forest is home to more than 1,450 chimpanzee protected within its borders of 795 km2 area covered. It is by far the best place to see Chimps in East Africa. The chimpanzees have been habituated for over 26 years giving you a chance to see the great apes in their natural environment. Children have to be 15 years and above to track the Chimpanzees. If younger they can opt to see chimpanzees at Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary located off Lake Victoria in Entebbe.
Trip Itinerary
Day 1: Entebbe – Kibale National Park
Breakfast in the morning and our representative will pick you up from your place of rest to the exciting Kibale Forest National Park for chimp tracking and Bigodi wetland sanctuary safaris. We get to the park during lunch hours; we check-in, in our lodges, take lunch and proceed for Bigodi walk around the villages for stories about the park from the local people. Dinner and overnight at Primate Lodge / Kibale Forest Camp / Chimp Nest (Full Board).
Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking & Bigodi Wetlands
Up for breakfast and set off for chimp tracking in the jungle rainforest. Chimpanzee trekking is done twice a day: early morning at 8am and afternoon at 2pm. Morning is highly recommended. You will meet for briefing from the ranger guide before the trek starts.
Trackers go before you and search for where the chimps nested the previous night and where they are located, then relay this information to your ranger guide. Be ready to walk long distances and carry a rain poncho. Suggested items: long-sleeved shirt and pants, comfortable waterproof boots, binoculars, camera, insect repellent.
Lunch at the lodge and after lunch, a visit to Bigodi Wetlands Sanctuary for a nature walk, birding and wildlife viewing.
Day 3: Kibale – Entebbe
After breakfast, drive to Entebbe with a stopover for lunch. Arrive in the late evening, check into the hotel waiting for your flight. Our driver guide will drop you at the airport.
